This book melds history (Nazi aggression), with current events (Chechnya's struggle and the Muslim condition) and uses them cleverly as a backdrop for a spy thriller with some very innovative propositions.  An excellent read.

Helix is full of suspense and one of the most intriguing stories I've read in a long time.  The author has you on the edge of your seat and it seems to be so real.  Once you start it you won't be able to put it down until the last page is read.

Helix

Something has gone wrong with a top-secret biological warfare experiment at the CIA.  After the assassination of the Russian Ambassador,  Martin Reismann of the CIA finds he has to work with Sergei Petrov of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service to find the killer.  As they follow the trail of an assassin, they discover a hidden gene splice from a CIA experiment has made its way into the Russian grain supply. The contaminated seed is growing across the former Soviet Union. Reismann and Petrov have to find the fields. If they fail, a second cold war is inevitable, but this one will unleash weapons never seen before and impossible to stop with a cease fire.

"For the life of me, I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it's so easy to do,"

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, resigning from the Bush Cabinet.

"I enjoyed the book.  The research for it brings it close to how operations occur and many aspects of it are closer to the truth than some would like to see. If you are not worried about the book's scenario, you should be."

"Helix a warning? Terrorism is usually identified with explosives and arms. This book shows that bio-terrorism can expose humanity to far more terrifying threats. Manipulation of genes in grain seeds is already common practice so the stairs to terrorism is just one step."

George Kellersmann

"This book is interesting, exciting, it goes beneath the surface of the events.  The author offers a picture of Russian mentality that hardly can be found in other modern books written by western writers.  I want to recommend this book to anyone trying to go beyond the news and wishing to understand some things that may have happened or maybe will happen in a near future."

Simeon and Nevena Mitropolitski - International journalists

"It has been a long time since I've found a book that has absorbed me as much as this one has. I started reading it on a Saturday evening and couldn't put it down till I finished it the following day, much to the dismay of my wife. Marian's characters come to life in this very intriguing and realistic story and by the end I was wishing there was more to read. If you love spy novels but find some authors work to be a bit dry and hard to follow this book won't disappoint you!"
