Apple Barrel
They're cute, they're small, and they will only talk to humans they trust. Not only can they talk, but everything in the produce section can too.
Joe Finster had no idea as he grew up on an apple orchard in Washington state that the apples he was merely plucking off the trees heard every word, and read every thought he had.
Joe moves on to New York, where his past would lead to his future. His romance with the apple trees, would take him on an adventure with a barrel of incorrigible apples that will change his, and their lives forever.
The apples want to live. Yet, they are dying. Their only hope, is to convince Joe to return to his grandfather's farm in Washington and plant their seeds. Joe is not an easy sell. He's happy right there in NYC and lets them know it. The apples are content for the time being, venturing forth into the wildlands of Times Square and the Theater district, but they have to find a way to make Joe leave.
A band of apple eating weasels, and a fight to the death for the apples Joe has learned to call friend, brings him around. He takes those who are left, and the seeds of those who died, back home where they will live again.
Apple Barrel is a sweet, heartwarming story about finding a way to survive with style.
